Meilily Product Photos: Sublime Balkiss Parfum by The Different Company!

I purchased a bottle of Sublime Balkiss by The Different Company on a whim during a trip to Barneys, likely feeling overwhelmed by their selection of fragrances and by the over-attentiveness of their staff. In the end, I am actually quite pleased with Sublime Balkiss: the subtle complexity and uniqueness of the perfume and the quality of The Different Company’s products and packaging.

The Different Company is a luxury fragrance brand that uses a high concentration of natural ingredients with the nose of perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, who has created fragrances for brands like Hermes, Cartier, and Van Cleef & Arpels, along with his perfumer daughter Celine. Their fragrance creations are unconventionally unisex and each is designed to have a different desired overall “olfactory effect.”   The Different Company has even been awarded a Green label by Greenpeace!

Sublime Balkiss Notes: Bergamot, Patchouli, Bulgarian Damascus Rose, Muguet, Violet, Blackberry, Blueberry, Blackcurrant and more.

A modern and unique “chypre fragrance, Sublime Balkiss does not contain synthetic or animal-origin oakmoss, so it doesn’t smell dirty in the least. Instead, Sublime Balkiss opens with citrusy and feminine bergamot notes (love!) and settles into an exotic and slightly masculine mixture of soft floral patchouli with slight watery notes.

This is a hard-to-describe fragrance, but, though I am not a fragrance expert, I would describe it as something of a light exotic citrus-floral, great for those (like me) who don’t normally like oriental or chypre fragrances.

The Sublime Balkiss box has beautiful swirls of magentas and purples, reminiscent of the exotic Queen of Sheba after whom the fragrance is named.

And finally, a stylized photo of The Different Company’s Sublime Balkiss perfume bottle, which is made of thick glass with a hefty aluminum cap…

Sublime Balkiss has a 13% perfume concentration.

A 50 ml bottle of Sublime Balkiss fragrance (pictured) retails for US$145 (previously $125 at Barneys), and a 90 ml bottle costs US$210 (previously $195).

The Different Company also sells a 48h aluminum travel case that can refilled, and refills cost $85 for three 10 ml refill bottles.

I was given a Sublime Balkiss before by a friend and I didn’t even bother to smell the perfume. I decided to give it to another friend. After quite some time I traveled and again saw a Sublime Balkiss and that’s the time I tried to smell it. That’s when I realized that I shouldn’t have given the first one after all.
