Gilt Groupe Launches Gilt Fuse for Women: Who Will Shop There?

Gilt Groupe describes their newly launched Gilt Fuse venture as “a great new way to mix and match today’s most-wanted labels with tomorrow’s hottest emerging brands at prices that are impossible to resist.”

The new Gilt Fuse online shop appears to be a women-only more edited version of the original members-only Gilt that also adds in some emerging new designers at a lower price point.

As a concept, it’s great the Gilt Groupe can target that lower price point, but in execution the jury is still out on how clear the Gilt Fuse concept comes through. As of this moment, I am left wondering if Gilt Fuse is going to target a much younger female audience, or if the same ladies who already shop Gilt are supposed to find age-appropriate attire “next door” at Gilt Fuse.

The big question is: Who is Gilt Fuse targeted at? Teen girls, new college grads, working gals in their twenties, or women of any age looking for some edgier fashion? So far it is somewhat unclear.

To give you a hint of this new flavor offered by Gilt Groupe, Gilt Fuse has a 36 hour launch sale on the labels Modern Amusement (sold at Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom and boutiques), Kova & T (sold at Ron Herman, Henri Bendel, and boutiques), and Generra (sold at Barneys, Fred Segal, and boutiques). Item prices range from a low $18 for knit tanks to a high of $148 for a Kova & T Renata Lace Dress. Overall the prices at this sale are quite reasonable, but the true style of Gilt Fuse is still to be determined…
