Exciting news! L’Occitane’s limited edition makeup collection is here! In select L’Occitane stores only, this rare garden-inspired Peony Makeup Collection is a must-see.
While wandering through a L’Occitane shop, I was drawn to a display of what appeared to be colorful flower seed packets. Imagine my surprise when I realized that L’Occitane, best known as a bath and skincare brand, has a new makeup collection out, and a pretty one at that. Each limited edition makeup shade is named after a particular peony.

- Liquid Shine Lip Colour in 01 Marie Riviere (a flattering medium-pigmented gloss inspired by a “delicate salmon-pink peony,” according to L’Occitane)
- Facecolour Powder in 02 Valse de Vienne (a pretty “glossy pale pink” blush/eyeshadow)
- Lipstick in 03 Mme Louis Henry (a very sheer warm-pink shimmer lipstick inspired by “a pink peony with old-gold patina reflections”)

They have all designed limited edition labels for Kiehl’s Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist, with up to $200,000 of net profits from the sale of the celebrity Toning Mists going to the Rainforest Alliance.
These 100% organic Limited Edition Acai Toning Mists are available in Kiehl’s stores now for $26 for a 6 fl. oz. spray bottle (same price as the regular bottles). These lavender-scented toning face mists are are my current “hot product” picks for Spring and Summer. The limited editions may also be slight reformulations of the regular Acai Toning Mist, which also contains “100% natural origin ingredients” but do not say they are “100% organic.”

- Insect Repellent – Skin So Soft BUG GUARD Plus Picaridin Insect Repellent
Towelettes (easy to apply in the right amount and smells pretty good)
- Natural Deodorant – Tom’s of Maine Natural Long-lasting Care Deodorant in Apricot (great, but perhaps not enough for a day-long trek through a swamp apparently)
- Hair Conditioner sample packets – DHC has some generous hair care samples (4 Free DHC Samples with Every Order.)
- A basic razor – I brought a disposable razor (shame on me), but non-disposable works too

I know it’s not quite summer here yet, but seeing as all the catalogs have been featuring swimsuits lately, I thought I’d mention a product I’ve tried that would be perfect for warm weather.
I had the opportunity to try out a new skincare line called Setoso Skincare, and found that their Eye Balm product was surprisingly cooling and perfect for warm summer (or spring) days.
Almost like a large lip balm stick, Setoso Eye Balm comes in an attractive and easy-to-use sage green twist-up tube, and feels instantly cooling and non-greasy when applied to the skin. Though it is called “Eye Balm” I am tempted to use this on my lips, on my cheeks, at my temples, or even at pulse points for a cooling touch of light moisture.

This month, tarte cosmetics is launching three new products as part of the tarte summer 09 collection and some new shades. The new tarte summer 09 collection looks to be more of an innovative departure from their previous color-based collections and includes a natural lash enhancer and an anti-cellulite self-tanner! I’m really curious to try the new products and see how they work, especially since I’ve had really good luck with tarte products so far.
multiplEYE natural lash enhancer ($65)
Contains a clinically-proven peptide that gives the appearance of longer, thicker lashes. Apparently 90% of clinical subjects reported an “increase in lash thickness,” while all subjects reported an “increase in overall lash length.” Sounds impressive. Best of all, this lash enhancer is cruelty-free and free of parabens, petro-chemicals, dyes, and other questionable ingredients.
celluFIGHT natural anti-cellulite self-tanner ($40)
A double-duty skin-toning skincare product and self-tanner in one! I don’t normally self-tan because I’m too lazy for that, but this sounds intriguing. Ingredients include natural plant-derived DHA self-tanner, caffeine, algae extract, and natural green tea fragrance that is 70% organic.
eyeQuatic waterproof summer essentials set ($35)
This makeup set includes three new lock & roll eyeshadows (turquoise, citrine, tanzanite), a deluxe lights, camera, splashes! waterproof mascara, and an aquatic-mod headscarf.

Boots No 7 skincare is in the news again! New research apparently confirms the efficacy of yet another Boots No 7 anti-aging product, and reminds us of what happened the last time Boots skincare was in the news…
Boots is the UK beauty product manufacturer that fueled the desire of women everywhere two years ago when their extremely popular Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum (a.k.a Restore & Renew in the US) was shown to increase the youthful appearance of skin. [Remember how that very same Boots anti-aging serum sold out everywhere immediately following a BBC television show announcing its positive anti-aging results?]
This time it won’t be Boots’ Protect & Perfect serum flying off the shelves. Instead, the mass-market product at the center of the latest scientific study is the Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum.
Results from a new year-long scientific double-blind study funded by Boots and published online today in the British Journal of Dermatology showed the anti-aging efficacy of the Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum, demonstrating “for the first time, that a commercially available over-the-counter ‘anti-ageing’ product improves the appearance of facial wrinkles when used in the long term.”
The same research team has apparently found that both the original Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum and the Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum can stimulate production of a protein that promotes skin elasticity called fibrillin-1. The latest study links the improvement of facial wrinkles in photo-aged skin to the serum’s ability to restore this fibrillin-1 protein, but does not specifically breakdown the particular contribution of key ingredients to this effect.

The April 2009 issue of Allure Magazine includes a surprise spread featuring none other than legendary supermodel Cindy Crawford looking fantastic and fit. Not only does 40+ Cindy Crawford look youthful in the Allure photos, but she also looks healthy, in a supermodel-esque way.

This latest photo spread in Allure Magazine is an excellent example of how healthy beauty is currently “in.” It looks like the days of fast food replacing home-cooked meals or of the waif-ish stick silouette replacing the hourglass figure may truly be gone. We could even start finding ourselves looking for new icons of beauty – beauty in health and beauty in strength. The striking Allure photograph of Cindy Crawford ripping apart a loaf of bread wearing a bikini definitely illustrates such iconic beauty in health and in strength, featuring toned muscles, glowing smooth skin, and… rustic organic whole grain bread.
