Meilily Lifestyle: 5 Tips for a Calmer Happier Holiday Shopping Season: Habits, resources, and ideas to help us keep our cool.
It’s that time of year to re-visit our goals and inspirations (and our closets) to see what has been working and what hasn’t, and to find new ways to improve each day.
Let’s start with an easy yet powerful tip…
5. Make Your Bed - One of the easiest morning habits of many of the world’s most successful people is simply making the bed, according to bestelling author Tim Ferriss (“The 4-Hour Body”, Tim’s podcast episode on 5 Morning Rituals). This only takes 5-10 seconds to do, and creates a fresh space first thing in the morning. Also, developing small habits can help increase willpower, which will come in handy trying to resist shoes we don’t need.
4. Keep Calm and Step Away from Facebook - When you get the urge to check Facebook (link intentionally removed), instead, › Continue reading

Meilily Featured ShopStyle Look: Paris-inspired Print Blouse & Full Skirt for Summer/Fall!
If you’ve ever been to Paris and found yourself gazing longingly at any of the gorgeously understated shop windows, you’ll understand the inspiration for this Featured Look.
On my first trip to Paris, I stumbled upon an amazing window display for Parisian label, Cotelac. So delightful! Such casual sophistication!
When I soon discovered that an outfit of such understated sophistication as seen in the Cotelac shop window was not to be had for less than US$1,000, I vowed to return home and recreate the look for less.
Here is an admittedly more American take on the print blouse & full skirt combo inspired by Cotelac:
The look centers on a sheer print top in an enchanting woodsy green shade like this Maggie Ward silk blouse or a DKNY chiffon blouse with animal print (if you like that sort of thing). Of course you’ll need a full neutral skirt like this Gun Print skirt by Porcelain (found at Modcloth) or › Continue reading

Meilily Hot Happenings & Launch News! Gilt Fuse
Gilt Groupe describes their newly launched Gilt Fuse venture as “a great new way to mix and match today’s most-wanted labels with tomorrow’s hottest emerging brands at prices that are impossible to resist.”
As a concept, it’s great the Gilt Groupe can target that lower price point, but in execution the jury is still out on how clear the Gilt Fuse concept comes through. As of this moment, I am left wondering if Gilt Fuse is going to target a much younger female audience, or › Continue reading
Abercrombie and Fitch (A&F) clothing gets a bum rap a lot of the time as clothing for mainstream zombies, but they actually have high quality fabrics, wearable designs, and a certain relaxed attitude toward partial nudity in advertising. (I’m willing to overlook that last part.)
One of the best things about shopping at A&F is that their clothing occasionally goes on sale, at nice discounts at that. Unfortunately A&F is also one of those high inventory turnaround stores where you may have to buy an item at full price if you really like it and want it in a particular size. (I made the mistake once of passing over a cute coduroy A&F jacket while waiting for a sale, and ended up having to scour eBay for one in my size, only to discover the wide world of eBay Abercrombie knockoffs.)
Where was I? Oh, yes. $12.90 jeans! › Continue reading

As with first dates, first posts are somewhat awkward and nerve-wracking, yet extremely hopeful – filled with the hope that all of those grand schemes and quiet desires will come to fruition.
Do I have arugula in my teeth? How do I look? Uh oh, awkward lull in the conversation – help!
To break the ice, or at least chip away at it, let me tell you about one of my internet “first dates.”
My very first online purchase
Back in the day of shrieking modems and questionable dial-up connections, I got up the nerve to go online and purchase something from the vast unknown that was “the world wide web.” The first object of my online affections? › Continue reading
