Meilily Hot Happenings & Haul Report: Barneys Sale = Marni Heels!
This year, the Barneys Warehouse Sale in San Francisco coincided with the Renegade Craft Fair, both at Fort Mason Center. Genius! Be sure to check out Meilily’s pics from the Craft Fair here.
SF Barneys Warehouse Sale Highlights:
Not expecting to find much, I headed straight for the Barneys Women’s Shoes section at the back. (The women’s handbag and accessories selection was dismal, btw.) The first Sunday of the SF sale wasn’t too crowded and there was room to sit down and try on shoes. With shoes arranged by size in typical clearance fashion, only the right mate was available on the racks. Note: Each shoe box gets sealed with rope before you can take it over to the registers! Talk about security!
After trying on some ill-fitting Prada wedges and a chic Italian multi-strap zippered heel (just a little too large), I found some super-comfortable and cute Marni suede heels (photo below) that hugged my feet when I put them on. I was immediately sold!

Featured Look: Benefit Cosmetics SF Blogger Party Outfit by Polyvore
Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 | Fashion, Featured Looks, Hot Happenings, Makeup | 1 Comment
Check out Meilily’s look from last night’s Benefit Cosmetics blogger party at the San Francisco Benefit Boutique!
I attended the Benefit blogger event to preview their three new Fall 2010 products, and had a great time! What’s not to love about meeting and chatting with Benefit’s awesome Global Trend Artist, Annie Ford Danielson (daughter of one of Benefit’s founders), and also trying out hot new beauty products, and sipping mini cocktails with cupcakes and grilled cheese from the new American Cupcake shop?! So glad I went!
Polyvore was there too, and they recreated my outfit as an online Polyvore set (see above). This works the same as creating a look on Shopstyle, and it’s fun to do!
I actually wore a gray knit dress by Iisli, Carmen short boots by Frye, and a gray scarf from Target, but you get the picture. Check out the end result up on Polyvore!
Hope you enjoyed this look! from Meilily

Meilily Hot Happenings Recap! Favorites from the Renegade Craft Fair!
Had a great time at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco this past weekend! Did you go? Loved meeting tons of designers and supporting small/local businesses at the same time.
Some of my favorite designers from the 2010 SF Renegade Craft Fair:
- Nous Savons: Not only were the lapel necklaces unique and fun, but creator Jocelyn Nguyen was really sweet and friendly.
- Catia Chien: Illustrations – Delicate and beautiful. The children’s books she illustrated looked great! (Btw: Catia’s not listed on the Craft Fair artists page.)
- Souldier: Loved their reclaimed seat belt camera straps when I saw them on Photojojo – So many cool colors! Picked up a forest green camera strap, and I’m still trying to imagine the car it came from! (Souldier also makes guitar straps.)
- I Made You a Beard: Well-fitting well-made yarn beards. Need I say more?

Product Pick & Photos: Nervous System Jewelry – Algal Bloom Necklace
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 | Jewelry, Photos, Product Picks | No Comments

Meilily Product Pick & Photos: Nervous System Algal Bloom Necklace!
I first discovered Nervous System jewelry on Design Milk, when a white silicone rubber rodialaria necklace caught my eye, with its organic cells forming a sort of crystalline honeycomb blossom. I immediately picked up a large algal bloom necklace (shown here), a white rodialaria bracelet, and a small stainless steel rodialaria necklace. Love all of it!
Nervous System creates fascinating and unique modern jewelry based on natural geometries and system generated design. Their work is high quality, slightly geeky, and uber-gorgeous. Check out these photos!
This large Algal Bloom Necklace is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry from Nervous System, photographed here in gold. This necklace is gorgeous – I get compliments all the time. › Continue reading

Wedding Stories: Ring Shopping Stage 1 – Trying on Rings, Finding the Right Style (Part 1)
Monday, January 18th, 2010 | Jewelry, Weddings | 5 Comments
Down the Aisle: Wedding Stories Tales from real-life as this bride reluctantly navigates the wedding industry and heads down the aisle toward perfect bliss… oh, and perfect flowers, the perfect dress, the perfect ceremony…

Ring Shopping: Stage 1. Trying on rings and finding the right style (Part 1)
First stop: Wilkes Bashford (for Diamond in the Rough rings)
- I first noticed Diamond in the Rough brand rings in a Neiman Marcus catalog and fell in love. Searching the Diamond in the Rough site, I discover that their only local retailer is Wilkes Bashford, who just started carrying them. The rings are beautiful! Just what I am looking for – uncut, raw, and natural! My (first) favorite – a small white rough diamond in the “classic” halo style, set in white gold with a delicate pave band. I want it, but I won’t buy the very first engagement ring I try on! Plus, it comes in a different color, slightly larger. I will wait to see the other ring, but this could be true love! *More on Diamond in the Rough later… (Their rings actually appear in March 2010 on The Bride’s Guide, the Martha Stewart Weddings Blog.)
Next stop: Cartier Boutique (because I’ve always wanted to go in but never had a reason to)
- Oooh! I finally have a reason to open the huge Cartier boutique double-doors and step inside. As expected, the Cartier “bouncer” eyes me warily. The selection of Cartier engagement-style rings feels surprisingly small, but I do at least find one interesting ring style, the Ballerine band, which is different from your typical giant-gem-on-a-prong rings. There is only one in my size available in the country (yikes), but they offer to ship it over for me to try on. How nice! The Ballerine band is my 2nd choice ring, though, it is also one of the few rings I have tried on so far.
Surprise Stop: Shane Company
- Fully expecting a mall-type cheesy jeweler, I venture into Shane Company based on several recommendations, › Continue reading

My Thi Cosmetics Halloween Contest Makeover!
Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 | Contests, Fashion, Makeovers, Makeup, Photos | 1 Comment

On a whim, I entered an online Halloween Costume Contest posted on the blog of one of my favorite beauty brands, Thi Cosmetics, and… I won a makeover by super-talented makeup artist Taylor Pham!
Check out more photos of my very special makeover on the Thi Cosmetics blog (and additional photos by Kandidlight Photography)! It was an amazing experience (hair, brows, makeup, lashes), and I loved every minute of it! Thank you so much, Taylor and Mimi!
My costume entry: A handmade replica of the swan dress that Bjork wore to the Oscars. I later paired my swan dress with some Lady Dragon heart heels to complete the whimsical look!
About Thi Cosmetics: Taylor Pham started Thi Cosmetics with business partner and multi-talented friend Mimi Tran Rickett, and since then they have opened a gorgeous makeup studio in downtown Palo Alto, CA. If you’re in the area, definitely stop by – you’ll be hooked!

Most working professional women out there have a dilemma: wear stylish leg-flattering (yet crippling) heels or wear comfortable leg-shortening flats, or gasp even consider wearing 80′s era mid-heel pumps? What is a gal to do?!
The first shoe worth selecting as a Meilily Work Product Pick is… the “Fold” Elastic Bootie by United Nude! This shoe is amazing!

Glamour’s Fashion Gives Back – Designer Tote Bags by Jason Wu & More

Meilily Hot Happenings! Glamour “Fashion Gives Back” Designer Totes for Charity!
What do fashion designers, a women’s charity, and Glamour magazine have in common? Helping others through design!
Right now, as part of Glamour Magazine’s Fashion Gives Back program, you can pick up special designer canvas tote bags exclusively at Bloomingdales NY (or Bloomingdales.com) for $35 each, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Dress for Success!
Glamour got six talented young designers to each design a Fashion Gives Back tote to benefit out-of-work women who need a boost. Tote bag designers include Jason Wu, the young Taiwanese designer who’s dresses have graced First Lady Michelle Obama on her first Vogue cover (and at President Obama’s inauguration), and also Brian Reyes, design duo Bensoni, jewelry designer Pamela Love, Gossip Girl designer Abigail Lorick, and shoe designer Alejandro Ingelmo.
Meilily’s two favorite Fashion Gives Back totes this year are from Jason Wu (his black gradient design is both elegant and exciting) and Brian Reyes (his red and black floral tote looks at once exotic yet strangely familiar).
Which designer tote do you like best?
**Stay tuned for more totebag photos, and Meilily just might be giving away one of these designer totes soon!
