I recently stumbled upon one of my favorite spots in San Francisco, Credo Beauty, a natural beauty boutique and mini Tata Harper spa in the Fillmore district of SF. Credo Beauty carries a wonderful assortment of natural and organic beauty and skincare brands, all of which are held to strict natural ingredient requirements.
Credo Beauty SF is my kind of store: It carries a variety of harder-to-find natural beauty and skincare brands, has beautiful displays in a small clean store, and best of all, it is located near another favorite spot, the International Orange spa. › Continue reading

Meilily Product Photos & Details: Alima Pure Mineral Makeup Holiday 2010 Fairy Tale Collection Sets!
Even if you don’t believe in fairy tales anymore, you will want to check out mineral cosmetics brand Alima Pure and their Limited Edition Holiday Fairy Tale Collection sets. I tried the Limited Edition “Once Upon a Time” (shown above) and “Happily Ever After” mineral makeup sets from the Fairy Tale Collection, and am now enchanted with Alima Pure’s high-quality additive-free mineral cosmetics.
Not only does Alima Pure know how to make high quality mineral makeup, but they also really know how to package it. You’ll easily fall in love with Alima Pure’s beautiful pigments and also their whimsical motifs. (Apparently Alicia Silverstone is a fan too)! Best of all, Alima Pure products are fragrance-free and formulated without irritants like bismuth oxychloride or preservatives. Meilily Product Photos: Kiehl’s Celebrity-Designed Acai Toning Mists!
What do recording artist Pharrell Williams, actress Julianne Moore, artist Jeff Koons, and model Malia Jones have in common? They have all designed limited edition labels for Kiehl’s Acai Damage-Protecting Toning Mist, with up to $200,000 of net profits from the sale of the celebrity Toning Mists going to the Rainforest Alliance.
These 100% organic Limited Edition Acai Toning Mists are available in Kiehl’s stores now for $26 for a 6 fl. oz. spray bottle (same price as the regular bottles). These lavender-scented toning face mists are are my current “hot product” picks for Spring and Summer. The limited editions may also be slight reformulations of the regular Acai Toning Mist, which also contains “100% natural origin ingredients” but do not say they are “100% organic.”

Is there lead in your lipstick? Are there harmful chemicals in your skin creams? The answer we all hope for is “No,” but the reality is actually not so simple.
Do we really know what is in our cosmetics? Lead has a sordid history of being used in cosmetics due to its pigment-enhancing properties, but, now despite being known to be a neurotoxin, lead is still making an appearance in cosmetics today. If you remember the scare over lead in lipstick from a couple years ago, you will understand that we cannot totally rely on cosmetics ingredient labels to tell us everything that is actually in our beauty products.
The lead in lipstick controversy stemmed from a 2007 report, “Poison Kiss,” from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, that tested lead levels in 33 lipsticks, and revealed that lead was detected in two-thirds of those lipsticks, including some made by L’Oreal, Maybelline, and Cover Girl, though lead wasn’t listed as one of the ingredients. The resulting consumer response to the report and findings of lead in lipstick ranged from fearful outrage to, surprisingly, stiff dismissal.
Those who dismissed the findings as “un-concerning,” cited reasons such as the personal insignificance of the reported lead levels or even a concern that the study was not peer-reviewed by the scientific community. However, it is not hard to understand why many consumers were actually shocked and upset by the findings of lead in popular lipsticks. Regardless of any opinions about the report itself, I’m sure all of us would like to have zero levels of lead in cosmetics rather than some lead, if given a choice.

Meilily Product Photos & Swatches – OPI Breathe Life Nail Polish!
As you might remember, Meilily announced the launch of OPI’s new Lung Cancer Foundation of America nail polish called Breathe Life about a month ago, with links to several great blog swatches.
OPI’s Breathe Life nail polish has since been generating some buzz online, so in order to help satisfy the demand for real-life swatches of OPI’s Breathe Life lung cancer awareness nail polish, Meilily now has new swatches and photos of OPI’s Breathe Life nail polish…
[You'll have to pardon the application! In contrast to the amazingly perfect swatches of those expert nail polish bloggers, Meilily's sophomore swatches show how nail polish will look when applied by, say, your seven year old niece. So, these could help some of you!]

Peacekeeper Cause-metics is celebrating their 6th Anniversary with a one week sale ending soon!
From April 7 – 14, 2009, get 20% off Peacekeeper makeup from www.iamapeacekeeper.com, always with free shipping!
I’m a big fan of the Peacekeeper Cause-metics philosophy of producing safer cosmetics while promoting women’s rights. Did you know Peacekeeper donates all after-tax profits to women’s health and human rights concerns?
I discovered Peacekeeper a while back when looking for a nail polish with not-so-toxic ingredients and also vegan-friendly products. Now, one of my favorite Peacekeeper products is the Nail Paint, a nail polish (Big 3-Free) that wears like iron, yet removes easily.
Meilily Shopping Tip: Consider ordering a custom gift set (including nail polish, lip gloss, and lipstick) if you’re interested in trying several Peacekeeper products, since you can save a little money that way.
Do check back for Peacekeeper products photos and reviews! from Meilily

Meilily New Product Alert!
Nail polish maker, OPI, has announced their new nail polish called Breathe Life, developed specifically to help the Lung Cancer Foundation of America (LCFA). OPI’s Breathe Life nail polish was created for the Lung Cancer Foundation of America to increase awareness about lung cancer, with OPI making a donation to the Foundation to help find a cure and even sponsoring ads for the campaign.
Available starting April 1, 2009, the new OPI Breathe Life LCFA shade appears to be a soft cloudy sky blue color that looks intriguingly wearable for a blue nail polish. Given that practically any shade of blue nail polish is fashionable right now, OPI’s Breathe Life nail polish may be launching at just the perfect time.
