Re: FTC Guidelines Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising

Meilily is dedicated to bringing you distinctive and useful content, which includes providing honest, informative, and objective descriptions, analysis, and photographs of carefully selected products and services.

Many if not most of the products featured and photographed on Meilily are self-purchased, though occasionally Meilily may receive free products or discounts from companies.  (Until updated further, the latter case may include a note indicating that the writing could fall under the FTC Act or will often just be identified by phrases like, “I had the opportunity to try [product X]…”  This language will be updated!)

As mentioned in the privacy policy, Meilily may also maintain affiliate relationships with select sponsor companies or advertisers who provide commissions or compensation for referral purchases or ad clicks.  See more on Affiliate Disclosure below.

Rest assured that in the event that Meilily does decide to mention a product or service that was received for free from a company, any review, particularly any positive review, will remain the honest opinion of the reviewer.  In the interest of showcasing the best and the brightest products and services, Meilily may even choose not to feature free products that do not meet the quality standards of the editor(s).

Similar to traditional magazines featuring products, editorials, and advertisements, Meilily ultimately continues to be edited and published with the utmost respect for the consumer-viewer as well as for the FTC guidelines, the sponsors, and good old fashioned journalistic integrity.

At the same time, Meilily is also a small operation, started and run for the love of beauty, style, photography, shopping, deals and good things.  Please enjoy Meilily content, and make us one of the many resources you use to make an informed decision about products and services!

*Note: The FTC Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising were updated in October 2009 to provide further guidance to advertisers (including consumer or blogger endorsers) regarding compliance with the Federal Trade Commission Act. Visit FTC.gov for more information on bloggers, endorsements, and the FTC Act.

Re: Affiliate Programs

Meilily participates in affiliate programs and may obtain a commission on select purchases or clicks made through an affiliate link, typically a small percentage.  Such affiliate link url’s often look like gibberish : ) and can be easily identified as affiliate links.  Meilily even has a section dedicated to deals provided by our affiliates or sponsors – the Special Offers & Deals section.

Since most items featured on Meilily are self-purchased and most giveaway contests self-funded, we try and keep the site going through affiliate income (not a lot).  If you like this site and would like to support it without much effort, just keep visiting and doing what you’re doing.  If you wish to avoid affiliate links, feel free to do so - Meilily tries to include at least one non-affiliate link or provide site info that you can access however you like.

Again, please enjoy Meilily content, and make us one of the many resources you use to help you shop, find deals, get inspired, and make an informed decision about products and services!
