The April 2009 issue of Allure Magazine includes a surprise spread featuring none other than legendary supermodel Cindy Crawford looking fantastic and fit. Not only does 40+ Cindy Crawford look youthful in the Allure photos, but she also looks healthy, in a supermodel-esque way.
This latest photo spread in Allure Magazine is an excellent example of how healthy beauty is currently “in.” It looks like the days of fast food replacing home-cooked meals or of the waif-ish stick silouette replacing the hourglass figure may truly be gone. We could even start finding ourselves looking for new icons of beauty – beauty in health and beauty in strength. The striking Allure photograph of Cindy Crawford ripping apart a loaf of bread wearing a bikini definitely illustrates such iconic beauty in health and in strength, featuring toned muscles, glowing smooth skin, and… rustic organic whole grain bread.
How to achieve such a youthful, healthy look?
Meilily’s Tips for Looking Healthy, Strong, and Beautiful:
Meilily Tip 1. Keep your body well-rested - Who’s going to care that your friends stayed up all night partying 2 days in a row (while you stayed in and got your beauty sleep) when you show up at the next event looking amazing? Meilily thinks sleeping in is the best beauty treatment ever!
Meilily Tip 2. Take a chill pill and give your head a break - Why stress out over little things that don’t matter? Research has shown that the body responds better to allergens when it has less stress and more rest. Plus, red, itchy skin is never attractive! To reduce stress, refer to Tip 1 on sleeping. Also, if you find yourself feeling irritable and moody due to stress, getting more vitamins like vitamin B6 might help (that is, if your doctor approves).
Meilily Tip 3. Hydrate inside and out - We all know we should drink more hydrating liquids (sorry, coffee doesn’t exactly “hydrate”), but what about also hydrating from the outside? Meilily suggests keeping skin hydrated from the outside with a bit of non-petroleum-based moisturizer, keeping both face and body from drying out and looking crepe-y. For the face, Meilily recommends a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid such as L’Oreal’s Skin Genesis Serum Concentrate. Moisturizing suncreen will also protect the skin and help keep it from looking dry and damaged.
Meilily Tip 4. Get your blood pumping with aerobic activity - Whether it’s from vacuuming your entire apartment, walking fast to catch the bus, or running at the gym, that hot, sweaty, and tingly feeling you get from exercise may give way to feeling healthier and looking good if kept up for long enough. Cells get their nutrients from blood, so keep your cells as happy as a mob of ladies at a giveaway by keeping your circulatory system pumped up. Plus, you’ll probably feel less cold on average when your metabolism and circulatory system are working better!
Meilily Tip 5. Catch some rays (and vitamin D) - The sun isn’t all bad for healthy beauty! While excess sun exposure can wreak havoc on skin, sunlight helps the body produce vitamin D! Vitamin D is important for bone health, and research on vitamin D has linked low levels of vitamin D to increased risk of upper respiratory infections (a.k.a more colds). No one looks as beautiful with a runny nose! So, put on some sunblock and be sure to catch a few rays!
